A la fin du secondaire, l ́élève devrait avoir atteint le niveau C1. L’EB est reconnu dans tous les pays de l’Union Européenne par un accord intergouvernemental donnant à ses titulaires les mêmes droits et avantages que les détenteurs du diplôme ou certificat délivré à la fin des études du cycle secondaire dans ce même pays (accès aux universités). Il est aussi reconnu dans de nombreux autres pays comme les États-Unis, le Canada et l’Australie. Dans l'ensemble, l'année scolaire est similaire à celle des écoles finlandaises de la capitale. L'école commence à la mi-août et se termine à la mi-juin. C’était alors une école suédophone pour filles, et il a appartenu plus tard à l’Université d’Helsinki. La rénovation des locaux a été conduite sous l'égide du service de protection des monuments historiques et s’est achevée en 2009. Le bâtiment est maintenant équipé des dernières technologies en matière d’enseignement, le tout dans un cadre esthétique et élégant. L’édifice est composé de cinq étages et quarante-cinq classes. Nous y trouvons deux salles informatiques, trois laboratoires de sciences, une classe de musique et une classe d'art. La majorité des salles de cours est équipée de tableaux interactifs.
